Someone said that worshipping God is permanent. It starts on earth and goes on for everlasting eternity. All our toiling and efforts are temporary. All our services in the church, mission work, preaching, and teaching, etc., are temporary. But worship is eternal. So, as Christians, worshipping God is our primary duty.

What is the True Meaning of Christian Worship?

What is worship? Worship means making God worthy by giving all glory and honor to His Holy Name. Worship means describing how great our God is and how He rules over the whole universe, including our lives. Worship means giving all glory, honor, power, and praise to Almighty God. Worship means discovering who God is and what God has done in our lives. God alone is worthy to be praised.

Worship is not only one part of life, but it includes our whole life. Many Christians wrongly think that worship only means attending Sunday church services or church meetings. They also believe worship is just about singing songs or playing music. However, worship is a lifestyle. Whatever we think, plan, work on, and all our activities and relationships are part of worship. It includes the ways in which we share the good news, how we follow Jesus, and why we love our neighbors. Worship is the total surrender of our lives to God.

The Role of Humility in Worship

In worshipping God, we must always remind ourselves that God alone is worthy. Humility of the heart is the best form of Christian worship. In Psalms 145:1, David acknowledges that God is his Lord and his King. David proclaims that he will magnify His name. We know that David was a very successful and great king in Israel’s history. But David became humble whenever he came into the presence of Almighty God. Be humble in the presence of God because God is well pleased with humble and meek people. The best example of humility is Jesus Christ, who became humble and took the form of a slave, emptied Himself, and became obedient even unto death on the Cross.

Paul, after all his hard work, says that he is the greatest sinner among whom Jesus came to save. John the Baptist said, “He may increase, but I must decrease.”

Dear friends, we have to remember that true worship begins with a humble and broken heart. The Bible says that God is against the arrogant, but He saves the humble ones. Remember that with arrogance and stiffness of heart, we cannot truly worship God. Let us set the right attitude in our hearts and minds to become humble before God.

Constancy in Worship: Praising God in Every Circumstance

Worshipping God constantly is a posture of hearts we are all called to in this life. In Psalms 145:2, David proclaims that every day and everywhere, in all circumstances, he will worship God. Furthermore, in Psalms 34:1, David joyfully exclaims that at all times and always he will praise the Lord with his mouth.

Dear friends, let us understand that worshipping God is not bound by time. Most of the time, we worship God when all is well with the world. However, during difficulties and bad circumstances, we are often filled with worries and frustration. Dear friends, we have to worship the Lord in both situations. Worship is not situational, but it is constant and forever.

Humility and constancy anchor a life surrendered to God in worship. Still, a challenging question remains: do we deeply understand that worship of God is our lifelong commitment? Worship is the ultimate form of our spiritual journey. Worship is a lifestyle, and God can be glorified throughout our lives in all circumstances until our death and into eternity. Furthermore, in the afterlife, worshipping God will continue constantly.

It is good to know so many around the world are joining us in worship as the good news spreads – it is good to know we are joining the saints through the ages in glorifying our God.

Christmas In India by Ketan Parmar

Christmas In India by Ketan Parmar

Christmas is the festival of Love, Joy, Peace and Hope. Christmas reminds us of God’s love and Salvation for humankind. The Indian way of celebrating Christmas is unique, colorful and full of cultural diversity.

Unique Indian Christmas Celebrations and Festive Cuisine

Christmas preparations begin weeks before the 25th of December. Homes are cleaned and decorated with stars, lights, and Christmas trees. Most Christian homes and churches set up a nativity scene to show the birth of Jesus in a manger. Many also decorate a Christmas tree and place a Santa Claus in their family homes. Food plays a big role in the celebration. Most families prepare traditional sweets, cakes and traditional dishes that vary from place to place. For example, in Gujarat, people make sweets named ‘Laddu‘ and ‘Namkeens’ like ’Sev & Puri;’ and for the festival meal a non-vegetarian dish ‘Biryani’.

The Role of Church: Carols, Midnight Mass, and Cultural Blends

Before Christmas week Christmas Carols are organized by churches to sing the good tidings in Christian homes and share the good news of Jesus‘ birth with others. On Christmas eve, Whisper Night Service begins in the churches at midnight to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The service includes Bible reading, sermon, prayers and joyful songs of praise. During Christmas week various programs assimilate traditional and cultural celebrations, such as the traditional Indian dance named ‘Raas-Garba’.

On Christmas day, christians attend special morning service in the churches, worship Jesus and thank God for the gift of Salvation for all mankind.

Living the True Christmas Spirit: Giving, Outreach, and Hope

Christmas is not just a time for celebration but also a time for spiritual reflection. Christmas teaches the value of giving, helping poor, orphans and widows who are needy. This is true for my church as many churches and christian organizations reach out to the needy by distributing grocery kits, clothes and gifts. The spirit of sharing reflects the true meaning of Christmas.

Throughout this season, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is shared and preached by various churches, lovingly extending the message to all outside the walls of the building. The work continues with sharing tracts and New Testaments, offering prayers, showing Jesus movies and many more activities that share our faith and proclaim the Gospel.

In today’s busy and self-centered world, Christmas carries a meaningful message to love others, be joyful and to live in harmony with others. It removes from us the anger, pride and selfishness. It fills our hearts with love, happiness and gratitude. It is a time when Christians come closer to God, to their families and to their communities. All decoration, celebration, gifts and the acts of kindness remind us that Jesus was born to bring love, light and salvation into the world.

So even today, Christmas continues to touch hearts and change lives. The light of Jesus shines brightly on those who are lost in the darkness of worldly concerns, offering hope, peace, and a path to love and truth.
