Josh Orndorff
Joshua Orndorff is the Director of Development at World Methodist Evangelism. Josh grew up and still lives in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Josh is an ordained United Methodist elder and is a Ph.D. candidate in Strategic Leadership Studies at James Madison University (JMU). He is a John Wesley Fellow. He also teaches adaptive leadership at the Honors College at JMU as an adjunct faculty member. He is a certified coach through Spiritual Leadership, Inc. (SLI), coaching pastors in spiritual formation and leadership effectiveness, helping churches/ministries develop leaders and form leadership teams, and performing evaluations to track growth and effectiveness. He leads a cohort in the Sanctification Network.
He received a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Sociology from Randolph-Macon College and a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School. As a Ph.D. candidate at JMU, his dissertation focuses on understanding the development of calling and various outcomes of living a calling. Other research interests include leadership development, shared leadership, and clergy well-being. He serves on the Duke University Clergy Health Writing Team. Josh worked as the strategic management consultant in JMU’s Office of Economic and Community Development and as the operations director at the National Center on Nonprofit Enterprise during his assistantship at JMU.
Josh served his first appointment for eight years as the chaplain of Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA), a United Methodist secondary school with many international students. He also served as the pastor at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church for several years. Josh feels particularly called to support young people on their faith journeys by helping them recognize God’s voice calling their name just as Eli did for Samuel. He desires that all people hear God’s call and find ways to answer it by growing as disciples and leaders for the work of God’s kingdom.
Josh is blessed to be married to his high school sweetheart, Michelle. They have four children: Julian (11), Orion (9), Titus (5), and Maylisa (3). Josh enjoys playing (and watching) sports, the great outdoors, snowboarding, Star Wars, and music.
