And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

In Matthew 4:19, Jesus promised to empower us to fish for people. At World Methodist Evangelism, we believe we are better able to claim that promise when we come together in shared Kingdom work.

Because we have a passion for connecting the body of Christ, we provide opportunities for you to join our partners in the life transformative work they are doing around the world. Below are a variety of ways you can become involved and provide support.

ESTONIA

In 1994, World Methodist Evangelism established a partnership with the Methodist Church in Estonia to found the Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary. After the Soviet Union ceased to exist, Methodist churches in Estonia, which had been forced underground for decades, were able to re-emerge. WME began supporting these fledgling churches by fostering relationships between local churches and individuals in the US and Estonia. The seminary was a crucial part of the rebuilding of the Estonian Church and continues to play a significant role in preparing leaders not only for Estonia but also for churches in Latvia, Lithuania, and beyond.

BMTS specializes in practical theology and biblical study. Lectures are delivered in both Estonian and English, with simultaneous translation into English, Russian, and Estonian. Two main programs are available: a one-year Certificate in Basic Christian Studies, providing a biblical foundation for life and ministry, and a three-year Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and Mission, offering academic and practical training for professional Christian service. Monthly study sessions, offered four days per month, allow students to complete their program while continuing full-time work or ministry.

ROMANIA

When Ukraine was attacked in 2022, the world watched in horror as communities were destroyed, innocent people were injured and killed, and thousands sought refuge. As people fled their war-torn country, the church in Romania was there to receive them. Many supporters continue to walk beside the Ukrainian people, sheltering them, befriending them, and helping them navigate a different language while trying to bring peace and understanding. Over 3 million Ukrainians have found refuge in Romania. While some have moved on to other countries; a significant number have chosen to make Romania their new home.

The Methodist Church of Romania has been a steadfast partner in projects that are making a significant impact in the lives of over 270 children daily. Through these projects, we have successfully nurtured their artistic and athletic talents, provided essential counseling and language support for their adaptation, and extended crucial food aid to those facing hardships.

Since the inception of our relief efforts, we have had the privilege of serving more than 80,000 individuals in Ukraine through our dedicated partners, including the Methodist Church of Romania. Remarkably, over 20,000 of them have found comfort, hope, and salvation in Christ. The war continues, and so does our support!

ROMANIA

Romania, a lovely country in Southeastern Europe, is known for its history, beautiful landscapes, and vibrant culture. It’s home to around 19.4 million people, making it one of the most populated countries in the region.

While Romania has made progress in recent years, challenges remain. Almost 35.8% of the country’s 3.7 million children are at risk of poverty and other social problems. About 400,000 children are unable to go to school, and over 50,000 children are in the care of social services due to factors such as poverty, violence, or abandonment.

To address these challenges, the House of Joy, working with World Methodist Evangelism, provides a home for children in need in the Sibiu area. The House of Joy offers a safe and caring environment for orphaned or distressed children. Currently, we care for 13 children. What’s even more impressive is that these children are not just doing well but are also learning about the Gospel, and some of them have become dedicated followers of Jesus.

Romania’s beauty and strength continue to inspire efforts to create a better future for its people, especially its most vulnerable children, who deserve every chance to succeed and be happy.

CUBA

The Holy Spirit is moving in great and mighty ways in the Methodist Church in Cuba! Unfortunately, although public worship is allowed, the construction of new church buildings is prohibited. This poses a significant challenge for a church that is growing at a rapid rate, making house churches crucial. As more and more people come to Christ, pastors and their small groups are in dire need of houses for gathering to further impact people’s lives and draw them toward the gospel. Your gifts can help purchase a house for a new church plant.

Bicycles become a life-giving tool when given to a pastor in Cuba. They offer a simple yet essential solution to meet a crucial need. Few pastors in rural areas have cars, which means they walk miles and miles each day to gather fellow Christians and share the Gospel. A bicycle enables pastors to minister more effectively in their churches and travel even further into unreached areas with the good news of Jesus Christ. Providing a bicycle is a simple way to expand the Kingdom and transform lives.
