What It Looks Like to Build Your Life God’s Way by Matt Hook
“Wake up O sleeper. Rise from the dead and Christ will shine on you!”
Dr. Matt Hook loves the local church. He has served for 33 years, the last 20 as the Senior Pastor of Huron River Methodist Church, which just celebrated its 192nd birthday. The church has doubled over the years and has maximized its campus with 3 building campaigns. Matt’s passion in the church is for preaching, worship, the power of fellowship, men’s discipleship, and evangelism. Matt received his DMin from Asbury and his MDiv from Garrett-Evangelical.
Matt has served for 28 years as a leader with World Methodist Evangelism, under Dr Eddie Fox and Dr Kim Reisman, leading worship and workshops in multi-ethnic gatherings, including every FLAME gathering since 1996. Over the years, Matt and his wife Leigh have been the host family to 9 different children from 3rd world countries (Guyana, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Mali, and Guatemala). These children and youth have lived with them for anywhere from 2 to 6 months at a time, through a program called Healing the Children.
Matt and Leigh have 4 adult children, 3 of them married, and 4 grandchildren with one on the way. Matt enjoys laughing a lot, nostalgia, gardening, exercise, and ministry together with his wife Leigh. According to the Clifton StrengthsFinder, Matt’s strengths are Positivity, Woo, Includer, Communication, and Maximizer.
“Wake up O sleeper. Rise from the dead and Christ will shine on you!”
At the end of the day, it’s not just about spectating; at the end of the day, it’s not just about building a monument. At the end of the day, it’s about pursuing God with our whole heart.
This dialogue sermon between Dr. Matt Hook and Dr. Marty Fletcher delves into the psychology of fear and anxiety through the lens of the scriptural text, “perfect love casts out fear.”
If we love Christ, we will love and care about what he cares about.
This weekend’s sermon comes from Dr. Matt Hook.
