Luther Oconer is a bishop of the Global Methodist Church and outgoing Associate Professor of Global Wesleyan Theology at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was elected to the episcopacy at the denomination’s 2026 General Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. He will provide episcopal leadership to Episcopal Area One, which includes churches in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi. Tennessee, India, Philippines, Tanzania, Panama, and Brazil.

At Asbury, Luther teaches Wesleyan and Methodist history and theology, Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, church history, and Christian doctrine. Prior to his election as bishop, he served as Conference Superintendent of the Mega Manila Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church in the Philippines.

Before entering full-time ministry, Luther worked as an engineer for a telecommunications company in Manila. In 1997, he answered God’s call to ministry and has since served as a pastor in Pampanga, Philippines; New Jersey; and Alaska.

He also taught at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, for nine years before joining the faculty of Asbury Theological Seminary in 2021.

Luther is married to Marion, and they are blessed with two children, Ilana and Wesley.
