Run with Scissors: Support Congo Seamstresses
Two dressmaking schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo are fighting human trafficking by helping women learn a skilled trade: dressmaking.
These two United Methodist-related ministries train vulnerable women to become dressmakers – a good, skilled job that provides stability and financial independence. One program is located in Lubumbashi; the other will be starting soon in a more rural area of North Katanga.
You can help support these programs by sending scissors to several United Methodist General Conference delegates who will be meeting with delegates from the Congo at General Conference this May. In particular, the delegates holding this virtual “scissor shower” are in need of good-quality sewing scissors, especially well-made fabric shears, pinking shears, detail work/embroidery scissors and seam rippers. Used scissors that are in excellent repair and that have been sharpened recently will also be accepted.
All items must be received by no later than May 1st. Scissors may be dropped off locally or ordered and
shipped to the following volunteer congregations in Indiana. Any scissors ordered online must be delivered by May 1st.*Thorntown UMC, attn: Karen Ottjes 120 S Powell St Thorntown, IN 46071
